Orange.fr is our broadband supplier in Paris, and somehow they have installed their proprietary search bar in firefox and IE--- it's terrible--can't even find Daily Kos. Like the old AOL crap. How can I remove it? I have removed the only Orange software visible in control panel/software, and it's still there. Nothing visible in tools/options, add-ons,

Have you asked them how to uninstall their search bar?

After all, they created it and somehow installed it in your browsers.

Go ask them how to get rid of it.

AOL did the same thing a long time ago, and a lot of people thought the AOL world WAS the net. Of course, that was the idea. Orange just plays dumb- as if, "Why would anyone want to do that?" Then they say that they don't know how to remove the search bar without removing the livebox itself. IE is just incredible- it's totally hijacked, not just the search bar. I need to get more basic than that- into the system somehow.

Tried that right away. But thanks a lot. Any more ideas? Useless instructions- on my IE there is no longer a bar with the favorites/tools/etc., nor is there any arrow for a drop-down menu anywhere on the window. As I said, I already uninstalled the software from control panel. No change whatever. This seems to be almost like a completely new browser, perhaps based on or licensed from Microsoft. Like AOL used to do. But with no exit. It's not so bad with Firefox- I've only lost my search bar to Orange.fr, but it's bad enough- If I had no bookmarks, I'd be well and properly trapped.
