I now use the letter x in the location/address bar to go to my crosswords page but I cannot remember how I did it. How do I set up more shortcuts for the location bar?

You can bookmark the site and add a keyword to it.
You can do that in the Library in the Details pane at the bottom right.
Click the More button to make the Keyword field visible.
