How do I use the "View Page Source" window?

When I right-click on a page, I see "View Page Source." How does it work exactly? Feel free to use technologically advanced terminology for I am a techno geek.

It does just what it says: it shows the HTML page source as send by the server.

If part of the page is selected then you get View Selection Source. That is the page source as regenerated from the DOM.
