Firefox crashes constantly
I have a brand new pc laptop with Windows 7. Firefox will not stay open for me, it just constantly crashes. I have updated Firefox, Windows, drivers, and checked to see if it crashes in safe mode. It does not. I have turned off Hardware Acceleration and restarted FF. I cannot disable extensions because the FF page won't stay open long enough for me to follow those instructions.
Please advise as this is increbibly frustrating. Thank you. Beth

This is a problem with your idvault addon. Try running firefox in Safe Mode, then go to "about:addons" and remove idvault.
Thank you so much for your response. When I run FF is Safemode and then go to the Firefox tab and add-ons, there is no "idvault". I even did a search and nothing came up. Am I looking in the wrong place? I could not find "About: add-ons", just "add-ons".
ID Vault seems to be part of Comcast's "Constant Guard" suite. I was able to disable Constant Guard but not uninstall it. Will this do the trick or do I need to go into add/uninstall programs in my control panel and uninstall it? I don't like the idea of getting rid of a program that is supposed to be protecting me, but I don't know if it really is or if it is just a Comcast "gimmick".
Please let me know if disabling "Constant Guard" helps, so that I can recommend the same to others that have this problem (It's pretty common). Did you find the addon in "about:addons" or did you have to dig around in your profile folder?
So far, Firefox has not crashed in the past hour since disabling constant Guard. Normally, it would have crashed at least a dozen times. I could not find ID Guard alone in the add-ons, but Constant Guard was in there. I had to do a Google search about ID Vault to figure out that it was part of the Constant Guard Suite.
I really appreciate your help and your quick responses.
This fix worked for me, too. Here is what I did: - Firefox->Help->Restart with add-ons disabled. - Extensions - On "CGPS Extension 1.0", click "Disable" - Exit - Restart Firefox and breathe a sigh of relief.
Big thanks to Matt2!!
Extensions - On "CGPS Extension 1.0", click "Disable" - Exit - Restart Firefox . Where do I find this?
- type about:addons in the location bar and press enter
- make sure extensions is selected on the left
