You have got to be kidding me, Mozilla! You claimed that Firefox 7.0 would consume less memory than its predecessors. Well, FF7.0 does consume less memory, but when I upgraded to Firefox 7.0.1 and used the browser, it now consumes MORE memory than FF7.0 did before, and it is now at nearly 300,000 KB to nearly 500,000 KB! And that was on my first use! The second or other times I used it, Firefox 7.0.1 only consumes less memory, than the first time I used the browser! Mozilla, when will you wise up and fix the memory leaks again?

That is nothing, my Firefox 7.0.1 consumes 2.47GB (2 473 805 KB to be exact) ram with just 2 open tabs... My system is with 8GB ram and I'm running out of memory... Most of the time when I browse, the pages load slowly, firefox freezes during scrolling (and assortment of other problems)

I've fond a fix for this. Works like a charm.

install "memory fox 7.4" under extensions. Will take the problem away :D

7.0.1 is the worst in terms of memory leak, very disappointed.

Tried several add-on and external program, none did the job to reduce commit size.

They have to fix this crap, I love FF for all of the plug-ins but this is getting awful. Getting msgs all the time from AVG that my browser is sucking too much memory and task manager confirms it, 3 open tabs and almost 1 gb ram being eaten up by this piece of ..... browser..

i am running 7.0.1 with just two tabs open on yahoo mail and facebook, i had ff 7 consuming 668mb of memory, and 38% of the cpu. i only have 2gb of ram so my machine starts paging memory out to disk, and locks up. chrome does not do this, and is looking more and more attractive. this high usage has been going on since V4 came out and it just gets worse with each release.

To compare. i only have 2 add-ons enabled, adblocker and forecastfox in both ff and chrome. i opened chrome and ff and did the same thing in both, navigated to yahoo email and facebook in two different tabs looked at a couple of facebook posts, opened a couple of emails. resource manager tells me ff uses 600MB+ of memory, Chrome (when you add all the processes together as it creates them when it needs them) 150mb. this is a joke mozilla.

Thanks for the solutions, nubllett and finitarry. I'll have to try them if I get a chance.

Oh wow, nice to know I'm not alone. I noticed my antivirus (AVG) reporting high memory usage since the latest update. Started off in the 300-500MB region, then it climbed to 750MB then earlier today it had conquered a GB. Insanity. I have had to restart my PC twice, since I only have 4GB of RAM and use intensive software such as Sony Vegas and Macromedia Flash.

I have done the "trick" posted by Finitarry, and will report back tomorrow with results, if I have any!

=)

Well today Firefox reached 700 or so MB before I gave in and restarted the process. It would seem that the trick mentioned above didn't work for me, which isn't to say it won't work for anyone else.

Let's hope this gets resolved someday. :)

Yae-yae! AVG started popping up the other day; saying FireFart was using over 400MB, but I thought it was just AVG being AVG... But then when Guitar Pro started lagging-out on me, I knew something wasn't right! I give that "memory fox 7.4" thing a shot, and check some other stuff out, too.

(No offense intended for the 'FireFart' remark. I do it for everything! FartBook, or FaceFart = Facebook, CakeFart = Cakewalk, TootyFruits = FruityLoops ... And I use & love all these things!)

GREAT! So far, it's holding my FF memory at about 110,000KB! Thanks for the tip! WOAH! I just activated Memory Fox - Browser only mode and it shot my memoy usage to under 30,000!!!

Firefox I loved your browser. Worst mistake I ever did was upgrade from Firefox 3 to Firefox 5 and then to Firefox 7. Firefox 7 has fixed nothing memory wise. I like to keep 8-12 windows open and any idle time kills my browser as the memory usage climbs and climbs. I have had it. 5-6 times a day with Firefox 7, I have had to close the browser and restore it. I can't take it anymore. I have now gone to Google Chrome. Memory Fox 7.4 did not to help as well. Firefox you really have blown it. Pathetic that you claimed Firefox 7 solved the problem. It didn't. Simply horrible.

I had installed the Memory Fox 7.4 extension. How do you activate the browser only mode?
