This is an alert. The workaround for now is removing Babylon, but in XP Sp3 it involves additional steps as outlined below. [I have also posted this on Babylon.com site] On a Win XP sp3 OS Dell computer with Firefox 9.0.1 I installed Babylon [also meets Babylon.com's other requirements]. After Rebooting 1. Firefox 9.0.1 crashed consistently while Babylon was running in the background.

2. Loading Firefox in safe mode:

2a. sometimes never opened a window, yet firefox.exe was listed in Task Manager.

2b. opened the “now in safe mode” window, but when the [Continue in safe mode] button was clicked, a crash report window opened.

3. While Babylon was running in the background I could not log into my Firefox Troubleshooting Account to access the Crash ID explanation. If you can access it and find out whether it is an OS, Babylon, or Firefox problem, for me and others, I would be most appreciative.

4. Uninstalling Babylon 9 Issues in XP SP3.

4a. Tried three ways of Uninstalling. Babylon Uninstall, Windows, and CClean. None worked.

4b. I had to first remove the entire program tree in Task Manager. Then Babylon Uninstall worked.

  • I found it is incredible that Babylon Uninstall does not know to look for its own program in task manager and to shut it first. Babylon is automatically installed to run at boot up in the background.

4c. It is necessary to run CClean's Registry cleaner to remove Babylon’s calls in the Registry. Babylon's Uninstall does not not do this, thus slowing down the load of XP while it looks for EXE’s that were removed.

If you only need an internet site translator, the Google translate add on seems to work well. [only one tried]
