images scrolling into address bar
I was browsing a page avclub and scrolling down the page when I noticed the static image of a video appearing in the address bar of the current tab. I was able to repeat the effect right down the page. As I scrolled down and the page with video previews move up I could see them appearing in the address bar. No text just graphic.
When I switched to a new tab - which happened to be the addons tab I could see the image from the previous tab clearly displayed on the whitespace of the addons tab.
Today the effect occurred again with an image - not from avclub this time - showing through from one page to the next.
I have not seen this behaviour ever before. What could be causing it?

Try to "disable the hardware acceleration" in the Flash Player.

Thank you for your reply. Unfortunately it (the reply) does not address the query.
I don't have any problem with viewing videos. All your links point to helpful links to troubleshoot flash issues none of which are applicable to answering the behaviour I witnessed yesterday and today.

I can't tell from the system information you posted whether Firefox's own graphics hardware acceleration feature could be causing the problem. You could try disabling it, since it sometimes can cause artifacts (i.e., content fails to be cleared from the screen properly).
You usually need to restart Firefox in order for this to take effect, so save all work first (e.g., mail you are composing, online documents you're editing, etc.).
orange Firefox button or classic Tools menu > Options > Advanced
On the "General" mini-tab, uncheck the box for "Use hardware acceleration when available"
If you restart Firefox, is the issue resolved?
Thank you for your reply. Unfortunately I cannot reproduce the effects I witnessed in the browser on two separate days. One of the browsing sessions was on the same site as the day before. That site, which I mention in my original post, is pretty graphic and media heavy - over loaded if you ask me - and it may be the unwitting cause of the anomaly (not problem) I witnessed: image in the address bar and same image showing through on a new page. Although to be fair to the first mentioned site the next time I saw a graphic showing through on a new page I was looking at the results of a yahoo! image search
If I see the curiosity again I will screencap it and post it with a link.

Update: I managed to recreate the anomaly of the graphic appearing in the address bar AND the same graphic showing through on any whitespace on a new page.
I unticked the "Use hardware acceleration when available" then restarted Firefox but the anomaly was still there.
I took screenshots but the anomaly does not show up in the captures: the browser windows look normal.
Cannot think what s going on. All I can add is that it is cross platform: it occurs on my Windows partition and my Linux partition. That made me think it might be hardware related but the anomaly does not occur with Chrome/Chromium. Haven't tried Opera yet.
If anyone else has any idea what is going on here please chime in,

You may not be seeing an image, but some artifact left by a plugin.
Try to "disable the hardware acceleration" in the Flash Player.

I thank you once again for taking the time to reply.
One of the links you posted led to the mozilla check plugins page which I found useful.
There was one plugin out of date and two installed by my graphics card that could definitely be disabled without impacting on my user experience in any shape or form.
At the moment I cannot tell if the artifact problem has disappeared as I am unable to reproduce it on every browsing occasion - so for me only time will tell. Perhaps the aberration will spontaneously vanish.
