Tools-Options-Content font choice does not change font on my homepage, which sets no font. On the same machine at home (both Windows 7), font selection works.

I have new Dell XPS 27-inch machines at home and the office. Ubuntu did not succeed, so I am running Windows 7. I have firefox on both, though I am not sure it is the same version of firefox (it looks the same). At home, Tools-Options-Content enables me to change the font in which I view my homepage, which has no font set. At the office, the same Tools-Options-Content-Fonts&Colors operation allows me to select a font but produces no effect whatsoever when I click on OK.

What is the home page?

Is "Allow pages to choose their own fonts, instead of my selections above" selected?

  • Tools > Options > Content : Fonts & Colors > Advanced > [X] "Allow pages to choose their own fonts, instead of my selections above"

You can use an extension to set a default font size and page zoom on web pages.

My home page is www.math.uiuc.edu/~west ; no font is specified.

"Allow pages to choose their own fonts" is selected in my firefox options.

My problem is not setting a zoom level. My problem is that my office machine does not respond to Tools > Options > Content > Default font > OK. The identical Dell XPS machine at home, both running Windows Ultimate (changed from Chinese to English), does respond to this selection when OK is clicked; it changes the font as requested.

I tried uninstalling and reinstalling firefox, but it didn't help; I still can't change the font on this machine. Maybe it didn't really uninstall; my bookmarks went away, but the history was still there.

I tried following the mozilla instructions, both to reset and to uninstall and then download again. Still I cannot change the font in firefox on Windows on this machine. Could the problem be a crashed version of Ubunta that I gave up on (crashed by using the remote control for the room heater)?

Try a clean reinstall and delete the Firefox program folder before reinstalling a fresh copy of Firefox.

Download a fresh Firefox copy and save the file to the desktop.

Uninstall your current Firefox version, if possible, to cleanup the Windows registry and settings in security software.

  • Do NOT remove personal data when you uninstall your current Firefox version, because all profile folders will be removed and you will also lose your personal data like bookmarks and passwords from profiles of other Firefox versions.

Remove the Firefox program folder before installing that newly downloaded copy of the Firefox installer.

Your bookmarks and other profile data are stored in the Firefox Profile Folder and won't be affected by an uninstall and (re)install, but make sure that "remove personal data" is NOT selected when you uninstall Firefox.

If you keep having problems then also create a new profile.

I removed everything as instructed, including profile, and reinstalled. The font still will not change, although the color of visited links changes. Could the problem be caused by the copy of firefox sitting in the dead copy of Ubuntu? I could not figure out how to remove that, since when I boot it under Ubuntu I cannot reach the network.
