When downloading a .xls file from a customers web site Fire fox knows it should be opened with OpenOffice. If I chose the open with option OpenOffice opens a Black work book.

If I chose the Save file option the file is saved in my Downloads folder. But Firefox fails to save the file with the file extension (.xls)

If I rename the file and add the .xls the file will open with OpenOfice so the Files are not corrupt!

how can I make Firefox save the files with the proper file extensions?

Thanks in advance dak

Hello Dakbrew, try to delete the mimeTypes.rdf file in the Firefox Profile Folder to reset all file actions.

Deleting the mimeTypes.rdf file will clear the associations between MIME types and programs. A new mimeTypes.rdf file will be created on start up or when the application first needs to write to the file.
