hello mark, this sounds like a problem caused by adware on your pc. go to firefox > addons > extensions & remove any suspicious entries (toolbars, things that you have not installed intentionally, don't know what purpose they serve, etc). also go to the windows control panel / programs and remove all toolbars or potentially unwanted software from there and run a full scan of your system with the security software that you have in place and different other tools like the free version of malwarebytes & adwcleaner.
Remove a toolbar that has taken over your Firefox search or home page Troubleshoot Firefox issues caused by malware
This is a generic answer. Bannersdontwork is not in extenstions and malwarebytes does not find it. It would help if the person answering it actually was more aware of bannersdontwork. It is annoying.
Hi callemgomer, if you run a web search for "Serve.BannersDontWork" you can hook up with numerous paid security products and paid security services that will help you remove it: "serve.bannersdontwork" - Google Search.
If the first free tool you tried didn't work, even though a user reported success with it on Microsoft's forums, you might need to try another. Here is a list with several more:

Just dealt with this on my mom's computer. System restore seems to have taken care of it. Ran malwarebytes, all the windows products she had on her machine, none of it worked. System restore was a last resort but it did the job.
Really..... If Modzilla can't come up with better than.... pay for program to remove crap from free browser? System restore for a pop up? Your program is infected.... fix it! Until it's fixed looks like Chrome?
Hi jonroy51, is your computer infected with this currently? It's not something that comes with the official release of Firefox. You must have picked it up somewhere else.
You do not need paid software to remove it, but you may need to try a few different free tools. These are highly regarded:
- Malwarebytes Anti-malware free edition: http://www.malwarebytes.org/products/malwarebytes_free
- SUPERAntiSpyware (free): http://www.superantispyware.com/
- AdwCleaner (free): http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/download/adwcleaner/ - beware of banner ads offering other downloads
- Spybot Search & Destroy (free): http://www.safer-networking.org/en/index.html
- TDSSKiller (free) is frequently recommended to remove rootkit infections: http://support.kaspersky.com/5350?el=88446
After removing the root cause of the problem, you may also need to clean up a few things in Firefox. In particular, disable or remove ALL unrecognized extensions here:
orange Firefox button (or Tools menu) > Add-ons > Extensions category
If there are any lingering symptoms, let us know what they are.
Banners Don't Work is a huge issue for me. I have tried disabling extensions and running virus scans and nothing seems to work. This banner is so annoying... Recently, I was unable to populate a drop down because the banner kept coming up, every time.... What is the fix ? This should not be rocket science? Thank you. Buzzy
Did you try the malware programs that jscher2000 posted about?
btw, anti-virus scans aren't made to find malware
Thanks.. I did try Malwarebytes , no luck... I will try another. Buzzy
I have not tried this, but there are several fixes that list these file names as the culprit. I'm going to work on this fix right now. G'luck, everyone.

Edit: Scroll to the bottom for the manuel removal without purchasing a product. I'm not 100% certain about the registry entries listed here to eliminate so use caution.

this seems to affect quite a few users - it would be helpful if you could go to firefox > help > troubleshooting information, copy the contents of this page & paste them here into a forum reply. this might give some clues what is causing & how to solve the issue...
Just ran SuperAntiSpy and then the banner came up again !

Yeah, Malware and Adware programs don't seem to catch it. I have not tried SpyDestroyer. That might be my next option if it rears it's ugly head again.
I did search my programs and registry for unknown files and saw none, but… before I did that I deleted a Coupon Companion program and associated Firefox app. I had downloaded it to print coupons and gift certificates I purchased from my local newspaper. Not sure if that did anything, but I usually get the pop-up page from serve.bannersdontwork when I browse certain websites, including FoxNews or Amazon. I've tried both and it hasn't shown yet. Doesn't mean I got it, but I'm keeping my fingers crossed.
On a sidenote: when getting rid of cookies, a nice program is CCleaner. Get it from Piriform. It doesn't load spyware, programs or unwanted browser toolbars.
SuperAntiSpy just found two occurrences in my C/User/Buzzy/APPData/Roaming/ Mozilla/Firefox/ Profile/9azyo700.default/cookies/sqlite
I think I need to delete my profile in Firefox...? Perhaps? Buzzy
this file just holds your cookies & won't be the root of your problem - you can also get rid of tracking cookies by using the internal firefox controls to clear cookies... could you provide the pieces of information i've requested above?
I cleared everything cookies, History, cashe, you name it....lets see what happens now Thanks, Buzzy
I believe bannersdontwork is history for me. See above for what I did. I neglected to mention that I downloaded the Firefox App Adblock Plus 2.2.3 That might have done the job actually. :-)
I have that App Adblock, but I still get Cookies from bannersdontwork... I still think I need to delete profile in Firefox and create new one. Not sure what negative that could cause? Perhaps nothing.. Grrrr.. I hate this banner. Buzzy
i'll repeat myself: it would be helpful if you could go to firefox > help > troubleshooting information, copy the contents of this page & paste them here into a forum reply. this might give some clues what is causing & how to solve the issue. in case it is a certain addon that is involved we might even get it blocklisted so that other users affected are protected too...
