Had to downgrade to 19.02 because v. 20.0x would not allow normal browser operations: - back button would not work to see previous page - session data was greyed out and unavailable

These two together were enough to prevent normal use. Not sure what to do beyond downgrading to previous working version (19.02). Having removed 20.01 and installed 19.02, everything seems to be working again, sessions menu items were not greyed out and my last session, 3 windows, 20 tabs, loaded again without issue. Back button and forward buttons are working correctly too, except no longer an arrow to see history list associated with the current tab, proximate to the back/forward buttons. Sheesh -- this is not an improvement!

hello, can you try to replicate this behaviour when you launch firefox in safe mode once? if not, maybe an addon is interfering here...

You can check for problems with the localstore.rdf file.

Problems with bookmarks and history not working properly can be caused by a corrupted places.sqlite database file.

philipp, thank you for your suggestion to diagnose by replication using safe mode to not load extensions (possibly themes too.) The second link posted by cor-el seems to be the most on target and so the place to start! It's very late here for me now, but when I get time, I will follow the instructions or ideas presented on that page as a first attempt: it sounds like it names the exact problem that v. 20.0.1 is presenting so it should present the best solution. I hope that solution does not involve a failure to keep more than a decade's worth of organized bookmarks!! (I will be sure to back up the directories and hopefully the appropriate files before any procedure that might cause them to be lost or corrupted.)

I will report my results.
