Okay, I deleted that particular file listed from the program folder, but under the troubleshoot menu it is still listed and it is still listed under my extensions as disabled. I rebooted firefox to same effect.

Nope. Still didn't work. It is still listed in both places.

Extensions that do not have a "Remove" button are installed by other software and are not under control of the Firefox extension manager.
Such globally installed extensions are usually found via a registry scan or are installed in a location that Firefox scans for installed extensions.

Extensions installed this way need to be removed via the settings (options/preferences) of the program that has added this extension.
In Firefox you an only disable such an extension.

You can use the registry editor to see if you can locate the extension via this key:

• HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Wow6432Node\Mozilla\Firefox\Extensions\<extension-id>

Then you can see where the extension is located on the hard drive and probably identify which program installed.
You can remove the <extension-id> registry key of this extension to remove it from Firefox.

I'm trying to remove the program PC Performer Manager. It is very stubborn and I seem to have disabled it, but it is clearly in my system still. Things like the REVO Uninstaller have not worked as I already removed it from my uninstall feature on the control panel.

Which of these programs do you suggest? None of my anti-spyware and anti-virus have worked!

(Now I'm having a similar problem with SpyHunter 4! Not a very useful program when you can't fix the errors it finds. Yuck!)

Thank you all for your advice. I ended up going through the registry and deleting every file I found on searches on for "PC Performer" as well as "SpyHunter."

It seemed to delete the PC Performer extension on Firefox, but SpyHunter is still loaded on my system tray. I am not supportive of these hard to delete programs!

Do you recommend I still run malware bytes for either of these?

Though it is a little time consuming, it never hurts to scan your system on a regular basis (monthly, quarterly depending on your internet activities) for malware infections with a secondary scanner (something other than your regular anti-virus/anti-spyware application). This should be part of your regular system maintenance routine.

• Each malware removal program uses it own processes to find malware, therefore, one program may find something that another does not.
• Always use only the FREE versions for secondary scanning and never have more than one "real-time" scanner running at any one time (most of the FREE scanners do not have real-time scanners).
• Always keep your primary firewall and anti-virus/anti-spyware software up to date. Keep the "real-time" scanner always running on your primary AV/AS application.

The free versions of the malware removal applications listed in the following article are some of the best for use as secondary scanners. Also, the forums listed in that article are staffed by malware removal "experts" to help you clean your system.
