Google.com works fine in IE8, XP prof. SP2 default search in Firefox 21 is google.com, which does not work, even when firewall is disabled and connection is "no proxy", nor when cache en cookies cleaned and pc restarted; Google.be (I live in Belgium!) does work fine. Can I set the default to google.be instead of google.com??

Open up about:config and search for 'keyword' then set 'keyword.URL' to

google.be/search?q=

Also, you can add a custom search for google.be using this technique:

Hope it helps.

Do a malware check with some malware scanning programs on the Windows computer.
Please scan with all programs because each program detects different malware.

Make sure that you update each program to get the latest version of their databases before doing a scan.

You can also do a check for a rootkit infection with TDSSKiller.

Thanks for the help.

I did the keyword change as you suggested. In the web-search box, the search seems OK (found one web-adress with the search-term in it; one only, is that OK?) In the google box, the problme is unchanged.

Take a look at this add-on so you can add any Search engine you want to your search bar:
