[this is my second attempt to post; first effort not allowed as I did not have authorization-??]

I can open any one email, as normal. Links within an email seem to work, when I try them. However:

Once I open an email, I can not delete it or close it. When I click "ACTIONS" or 'COMPOSE" the pop-up message "LOADING..." never completes, apparently looping.

When I click "COMPOSE", a text msg appears on the bottom of my screen indicating, I think, what the computer is reading:

us-mg205.mail.yahoo.com/neo/launch?.partner=sbc&.rand=cgcse0vj3t121#/minty/page/compose

if I attempt to delete, the same msg appears, minus "minty/page/compose"

When I mouse-over or click the gear wheel (settings) icon it merely spins and does nothing. Same text msg, except instead of "minty/page/compose" it reads "yucs-help_inner".

This situation arose about two days ago on my laptop. The same email works normally with Safari on my Ipad, also on my laptop via Windows Live Mail (which I no longer use but still have the program). Thus this appears to be a Mozilla/Firefox issue?

Thank you, LaurieGF, for your advice and very thorough instructions. I already uninstalled Adfender some weeks ago (but I don't recall if I closed it out using Task Manager or not). Searching "programs" just now it appears the uninstall was successful. I have been using the "stylish" add-on and that has worked--no more ads show up. My email is working fine now, using Mozilla browser. When I contacted support@adfender.com, they denied any conflict with Yahoo software. If you haven't passed on your comments to them, and you still use Adfender, they might be interested in your comments.

I do recall this have being a Yahoo side issue before. Please check with another browser to see if you still get this error.

Hello,

Try disabling graphics hardware acceleration. Since this feature was added to Firefox, it has gradually improved, but there still are a few glitches.

You might need to restart Firefox in order for this to take effect, so save all work first (e.g., mail you are composing, online documents you're editing, etc.).

Then perform these steps:

  • Click the orange Firefox button at the top left, then select the "Options" button, or, if there is no Firefox button at the top, go to Tools > Options.
  • In the Firefox options window click the Advanced tab, then select "General".
  • In the settings list, you should find the Use hardware acceleration when available checkbox. Uncheck this checkbox.
  • Now, restart Firefox and see if the problems persist.

Additionally, please check for updates for your graphics driver by following the steps mentioned in the following Knowledge base articles:

Did this fix your problems? Please report back to us!

Thank you.

Thanks your suggestions, but no improvement. I first disabled the graphics hardware acceleration and re-started. since that did nothing, I re-enabled. Next I tried starting in safe mode. No change. Then re-set Firefox and re-started. No change. then used Windows up-date to up-date all recommended, important and one optional patch (all mostly security issues); about 43 up-dates (it has been a while since I last checked). No change I read in that if the problem persists in Safe Mode then it is not caused by "an extension, theme, or hardware accleration". I also looked at the plug-ins; I have 11, mostly Google, and Picasa, Itunes, Adobe, which seem innocuous. Also have a plug-in for "Browser Plus (from Yahoo)". --Is that a concern? the only recent download was Snagit11, if that is relevant? Am now downloading 13 more Windows Up-dates, again security fixes apparently. I will then resume with a Spybot scan. As I mentioned in my initial post, I am not having this issue with my att/yahoo email on Safari on my Ipad, so does appear to be a Mozilla issue.

Up-date: still no success after using System Restore, not once but three times, but all to the same restore point as it only shows one available (shouldn't there be more?). The second time, oddly, initially appeared successful--I did open and then deleted an email, using the trash can icon, a normal operation, and reverted to inbox . However, to check further I clicked "actions" and the problem immediately was apparent--"loading" but not really. Subsequently could not delete emails or open other folders. Very frustrating. Others have suggested loading another browser entirely and forgetting FF. OR try re-installing an earlier version (FF 21, maybe?)

Can you reproduce this in a new profile, is this still a issue?

Solved! (Thanks Tylerdowner) But not by using the Profile Mgr. I clicked Firefox/Help/About, to double-check I still had v22. Immediately however a download commenced, for v23, which I now have. And the email is working fine. (I didn't try the Profile Mgr because that seemed to imply deleting "Laugesen" which I don't want to do.) Either I need to check more frequently for Mozilla up-dates or re-set the default to load automatically, if that is an option (?)

Evidently, I was too hasty. Same problem again today... No FF up-dates to download. What IS this recurring problem??

Clear the cache and the cookies from websites that cause problems.

"Clear the Cache":

  • Firefox/Tools > Options > Advanced > Network > Cached Web Content: "Clear Now"

"Remove Cookies" from sites causing problems:

  • Firefox/Tools > Options > Privacy > Cookies: "Show Cookies"

If clearing cookies doesn't work then it is possible that the cookies.sqlite file that stores the cookies is corrupted.

Rename (or delete) cookies.sqlite (cookies.sqlite.old) and delete other present cookie files like cookies.sqlite-journal in the Firefox profile folder in case the file cookies.sqlite got corrupted.

cor-el [related to Kal-el??]: I followed your instructions, cleared the cache, removed all cookies. Did a warm boot, no change--but did get two odd/unsolicited pop-up messages. First was words to the effect regarding Win C++ "asked to terminate in an unusual way. Ask your (someone) about this". I clicked "okay" since I didn't no what else to do on that, then "Win Desktop gadgets has stopped working" popped up--however the only gadgets I use that I know of are the clock and calendar, which did load. Then searched for and deleted "cookies.sqlite" whatever that is; did a cold boot. No success. The one tiny change I did observe was that after deleting that file, the mini-icon for ATT in the address bar resumed to normal, a blue striped ball, instead of what had appeared after clearing the cache, a stylized red-orange square that I didn't recognize. Looking over this thread, I thought to locate and delete my profile, but have not done so. Earlier, days ago now, I did try FF re-set but that didn't help at that stage. This is becoming a very frustrating problem. I can't believe mine is the only one affected. What to do now?? Switch to another browser altogether? (And lose my 100's of bookmarks?)

Do a clean reinstall and delete the Firefox program folder before (re)installing a fresh copy of the current Firefox release.

Download a fresh Firefox copy and save the file to the desktop.

Uninstall your current Firefox version, if possible, to cleanup the Windows registry and settings in security software.

  • Do NOT remove personal data when you uninstall your current Firefox version, because all profile folders will be removed and you lose personal data like bookmarks and passwords from profiles of other Firefox versions.

Remove the Firefox program folder before installing that newly downloaded copy of the Firefox installer.

  • (32 bit Windows) "C:\Program Files\Mozilla Firefox\"
  • (64 bit Windows) "C:\Program Files (x86)\Mozilla Firefox\"

Your bookmarks and other personal data are stored in the Firefox profile folder and won't be affected by an uninstall and (re)install, but make sure that "remove personal data" is NOT selected when you uninstall Firefox.

If you keep having problems then also create a new profile.

I followed your instructions, uninstalled then re-installed. Also ran Windisk and CC Cleaner. Deleted Mozilla (x86), re-searched to make sure and it was gone, but several others were still in place: Plug ins, Add On 3, Components, etc. Ran the new download set up, "standard". Same problem. Opened Safari, opened email, same problem! Ran Malwarebytes scan, "no malicious items found". Shut down, re-boot. Same problem. Called ATT. Found same problem with Chrome and IE. Long and short: upon disabling "filtering" in AdBlocker, the email came back to life. Re-enabling filtering, the email continues to work. However, several unread emails had been moved to "trash", and now several are missing altogether. Sent query to Adblocker which at first I thought did not go because of an error message from windows ("temporary message #4) but it did go. Adblocker replied to say their software is compatible with browsers including FF, and in no way caused the movement/loss of emails. Call me skeptical, but I suspect it's only a matter of days before this problem comes back...

Hi Laugesen, there are so many similarly named products... can you provide more information about the publisher of Adblocker or its website, so people can know whether it's one they have? Thanks.

The proper name is AdFender (sorry for that mistake earlier). Their website is www.adfender.com. they seem to be legitimate, as I have had some feedback from them. Hard to tell how well it works, but it hasn't--until now, maybe--done any harm.

Laugesen, Me too have this Problem. I installed Adblock Ege & Karma Blocker. May be one of these two add-ons creating the issue. As an alternative, I'm using " IE" Add-on in Firefox. Only thing i need to Right-click on Firefox Browser content , there will options to render the page in IE within the firefox.. But for the Yahoo mail issue, still i'm wondering.

more options

Hi vjguhan, what are the specific problems are you having with Yahoo mail? Did you try the suggestions in this thread?

more options

vjguhan: which IE add-on are you using? I see several listed in FF. And this eliminates the problems with email?

more options

Laugesen, I'm using IE Tab 4.0.20130422 by PCMan. This works so good for Yahoo mail ..You can view Yahoo mail in an IE Tab inside the firefox Browser. After adding this Extension , right click on the present page and select "View Page in IE Tab" .

In case it matters, IE Tab runs IE inside a Firefox tab. Within that tab, IE rules apply (IE cookies, IE temporary internet files, IE security).

more options

vjguhan: I just downloaded another IE ext, IE Tab 2 (FF 3.6+) 4.12.22.2. I allowed it to install a tiny icon on the task bar that allows me to click from IE mode back and forth to FF. As for using that with the ATT/Yahoo mail, the appearance is much the same, a slightly different font, but perhaps the key is that in IE mode there is no side-bar advertisements that are a continuing nuisance with FF (and maybe the source of conflict?) The side-bar in the IE mode is simply a static suggestion to upgrade the IE. I haven't used this enough yet to see if the previous problems do not occur with IE, but I do recall that previously I opened Chrome (which this IE tab uses) and the problems seemed the same. I will see how this works out. Thanks.

vjguhan: I spoke too soon. The ads are back, same as with FF.

Hi Laugesen, you mentioned that "The ads are back" but I thought the problem was that certain buttons and menus didn't work in Yahoo mail. Can you recap the status of the problem?
