When I try to log into hotmail on my desktop it says untrusted connection HELP!
When I log into my hotmail, I get a message that says the connection is untrusted. It says it is an invalid security certificate. I have tried clearing the cache, uninstalling and reinstalling firefox, and checked to make sure the date and time are correct. Nothing has worked. It works fine under Internet Explorer. HELP!

Hello,
Try Firefox Safe Mode to see if the problem goes away. Safe Mode is a troubleshooting mode, which disables most add-ons.
(If you're not using it, switch to the Default theme.)
- You can open Firefox 4.0+ in Safe Mode by holding the Shift key when you open the Firefox desktop or Start menu shortcut.
- Or open the Help menu and click on the Restart with Add-ons Disabled... menu item while Firefox is running.
Once you get the pop-up, just select "'Start in Safe Mode"
If the issue is not present in Firefox Safe Mode, your problem is probably caused by an extension, and you need to figure out which one. Please follow the Troubleshoot extensions, themes and hardware acceleration issues to solve common Firefox problems article for that.
To exit the Firefox Safe Mode, just close Firefox and wait a few seconds before opening Firefox for normal use again.
When you figure out what's causing your issues, please let us know. It might help other users who have the same problem.
Thank you.
What is the URL you can't visit?
Does it make any difference if you go directly to the Windows Live login page instead of a Hotmail URL?
Here is the URL: https://snt148.mail.live.com/default.aspx?id=64855&rru=inbox
I can type in my username and password for Hotmail, but as soon as I hit enter it pops up that it is untrusted. I can get in fine under Internet Explorer (which is what I am under right now).
I did this, and now hotmail.com comes up with the same message and it didn't before, before it was only after I tried to log in.
I opened firefox in safe mode and it still comes up as "this connection is untrusted". It is still saying invalid security certificate.
locate your profile and delete cert8.db while firefox is closed.
what if it just says cert8 and not cert8.db?
Yeah, applies still.
By default, Windows hides some file extensions from you. You can change a setting to make those display. http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/show-hide-file-name-extensions#show-hide-file-name-extensions=windows-7
I did this and deleted the cert8.db, logged back into firefox and it is still saying untrusted connection. I guess my only other option is to switch to IE.......
you can also use a addon to bypass it
Hi rmbdance, when you examine the details in the error page and for the untrusted certificate, do you notice anything unusual about it?
In particular:
(1) What does the Technical Details section say is the reason the certificate is untrusted?
(2) If you click "I understand the risks" and click the Add Exception button, then click View, do you see any entities other than Microsoft and VeriSign mentioned?
When I try to visit snt148.mail.live.com I am redirected to a different server, but I've attached a screen shot of the certificate details that I see.
Also check the date and time in the clock on your computer: (double) click the clock icon on the Windows Taskbar.
Boot the computer in Windows Safe mode with network support (press F8 on the boot screen) as a test to see if that helps.
