For months, now, I'd been having problem with Firefox freezing up before it prompted me to correct script errors, particularly when loading large photo posts on messageboards/forums. Well, this problem has not gone away, but just in the last day (since November 18), I'm now having the problem where it's taking forever for pages to load. This is actually a slightly better problem to have, as my browser isn't freezing up, but it came out of nowehere. I've downloaded nothing new, and it's not the plug-ins and add-ons. Nothing's changed since yesterday.

Anyone else just got this problem? I tried troubleshooting with all of the articles, here, but that's mostly for add-on/plug-in problems, and that's not what this problem is. Nor have I altered Firefox since yesterday, so that doesn't explain it, either.

Hello FireFoxFan1,

Thank you for contacting Mozilla Support. The Reset Firefox feature can fix many issues by restoring Firefox to its factory default state while saving your essential information. Have you given this a try yet?
Note: This will cause you to lose any Extensions and some Preferences.

  • Open websites will not be saved in Firefox versions lower than 25.

To Reset Firefox do the following:

  1. Go to Firefox > Help > Troubleshooting Information.
  2. Click the "Reset Firefox" button.
  3. Firefox will close and reset. After Firefox is done, it will show a window with the information that is imported. Click Finish.
  4. Firefox will open with all factory defaults applied.

Further information can be found in the Refresh Firefox - reset add-ons and settings article.

Did this fix your problems? Please report back to us!

Cheers, Patrick

It is possible that your security software (firewall, anti-virus) blocks or restricts Firefox or the plugin-container process without informing you, possibly after detecting changes (update) to the Firefox program.

Remove all rules for Firefox and the plugin-container from the permissions list in the firewall and let your firewall ask again for permission to get full unrestricted access to internet for Firefox and the plugin-container process and the updater process.

Resetting Firefox wipes out all my plugins and add-ons doesn't it? I just got the page to look the way I want it and don't want to have to re-do everything. Is there any other way to troubleshoot this issue?

It only wipes your extensions and other customizations (options settings and toolbars), but not plugins as those are found via other means (registry scan).

Instead you can try to create a new profile as a test to check if your current profile is causing the problems.
That will allow you to return to your currently used default profile,

See "Creating a profile":

If the new profile works then you can transfer some files from an existing profile to the new profile, but be cautious not to copy corrupted files to avoid carrying over the problem.
