Why doesn't FF recognize my Adobe Reader 10.1.9?
I hve Adobe Reader 10.1.9 installed and everytime I check for updated plugins FF tells me that it needs updating. When I try to update it, it wants me to download and install version 10.1.4. Why?

hello dandyone, the root of the problem here is that firefox is expecting adobe reader 11 as latest version - however adobe doesn't make the current version available for windows vista users.
If you have the latest version of the Adobe Reader for your Operating System and for Vista that is the version that you already have then you can ignore this message.
Adobe only makes some AR versions available via a direct download and for Vista the 10.1.4 AR version is the last version. To get the latest AR version you need to update the Adobe Reader from inside this program. The plugin test page only sees the latest AR 11 version as up to date and thus gives an outdated plugin version.
The line : "To get the latest AR version you need to update the Adobe Reader from inside this program"; What does the writer mean with THIS program? Firefox? but how you update that then form THIS program? I have no clue. Very unclear what is meant here. Firefox knows my O/S is Vista, it knows that 10.1.4 ( i have 10.1.9 by the way...) is save. Still it blocks the plugin to automatically activate. So I have no clue what is being checked here by Firefox, and neither do I understand how to fix this......
No that is within the Adobe Reader program as this program needs to be updated and not Firefox.
Adobe only made a few Adobe Reader versions available as full version via a direct download and you need to update such a version to the latest version until you have the latest release for your platform.
I don't understand why Firefox is relevant. It appears to be the Adobe Reader Installer program that is insisting on reinstalling AR 10.1.9 over and over and over.
To those who are saying AR 10.1.14 is the last version that works with Vista, that is not so. I have Vista, and I have AR10.1.9.
What I want to know is: Is it true -- or not -- that AR 10.1.9 is the last version that works with Vista?
If AR 11.0+ series works with Vista, exactly HOW are we supposed to access the file that actually installs ver. 11, instead of repeatedly installing 10.1.9 over and over and over?
Finally, if it is not possible to upgrade AR in Vista, how the heck do we stop this incessant prompting from the AR Installer to install 10.1.9 again (and again, and again)?
I don't think this explanation makes any sense. Surely the installer programs know that I have a Vista operating system. If it were true that AR 10.1.9 is a terminal program for Vista, why would the installers continually prompt to "upgrade"? This looks like a bug in the installer program. Somebody please explain the illogic of prompting to upgrade a terminal application.
