I have FF Vers 27.0.1 so why won't the latest browser update not install on my Windows XP system?
I went to a website with tons of different graphics. A window popped up alerting me to a browser extension update. I clicked on it and a Firefox update screen appeared saying my Firefox 27.0 browser was outdated. I saved the updater: Setup.exe. by clicking on the Accept and Install button in the setup box. What happens is that it just keeps saving the download when you click on the Accept and Install button and never goes to the install part.

hello, this is a scam tactic that is trying to trick you into installing malware, so don't download or execute this kind of stuff! only download firefox from its official location at mozilla.org - in addition updates are handled automatically by firefox so you don't have to download anything (you can initiate a check for updates in firefox > help > about firefox).
you might also want to run a full scan of your system with the security software already in place and different tools like the free version of malwarebytes, adwcleaner & kaspersky security scan in order to make sure that there isn't already some sort of malware active on your system that triggers these false alerts.
Firefox 27.0.1 is the latest release.
I agree that the updater_setup.exe was not from mozilla and was a trick to infect your computer. The outdated browser updates scam sites have been popping up for a while now. Updates to Firefox are done in Firefox with .mar files or by downloading from mozill.org
Updates are not done by way of a small updater exe more so when Firefox is not just for Windows and is for Mac OSX and Linux also from mozilla.org
