UPDATE - What does it take to get Firefox 28 to play videos on YouTube?
Searching support for two nights has led me to an answer because the help is outdated. I have been unable to find support for Firefox 28.
YouTube videos will not play using Firefox on my new desktop computer. I downloaded Flash player (version 12 something) using Firefox 28 after YouTube told me I needed it. After doing that, videos would play for a few seconds, then a message would appear telling the video would not play with a "Learn More" link. The help was too vague to help.
I have Windows 7 Home Professional, security software, etc.
I have uninstalled the Flash plugin until I get a better handle of what I need to know to better troubleshoot this. YouTube videos will play when I use IE 11 without downloading a plugin.
Thanks you in advance.

IE11 has Flash built-in. So yes, you do need to install Flash for Youtube. There is no point troubleshooting w/o Flash installed. Make sure you do get the correct version. Then test your Flash installation.

Once this is working try Youtube again.
You can request to use HTML5 for Youtube, but not all videos are available as HTML5.
Generally, you need Flash Player.
- Go to Flash Player installation problems on Windows | Adobe Support.
- On that page, right-click "Flash Player Plug-in (All other browsers)" and choose Save Link As. Save the file somewhere handy, like the desktop.
- Exit all browsers and double-click the file you downloaded to start the installation.
If the problems persist, describe the error message and post the "Learn more" link.

You can do without Flash Player on YouTube if you install the following add-on. I've yet to find a single video that wouldn't play.
I think YouTube's HTML5 trial is simply broken. It has never worked for me and others.

That's specific to Windows 8.
Thank you for the replies.
While I still have Firefox 28 installed, I have NOT re-installed Flash plugin. And guess what, videos on YouTube play just fine, for now, in Firefox. They also play well in my other browsers, too.
If I do ever download and install Flash plugin again, I will refer to the the replies I have received here.
If anyone else has any insight on my post, please post a reply.
Thanks again for the replies.
Flash Player is tricky sometimes. As far as I know, there is one version for IE, and another version for all other browsers. It could be that you have the wrong version installed. It's also worth pointing out that Firefox is a 32-bit browser, while IE has a 64-bit version. If you have a 64-bit computer, maybe you need to install a 32-bit version of Flash Player for Firefox.
