When opening firefox, the home page is all formatted weird, All the lines are far off the left and what should be going across the screen is in single words down the left. I can't even begin to use Firefox with this opening page. Also when I was able to use Firefox in the past when I go to download, I get multiple tabs that keep opening like hundreds and hundreds that I can't stop but have to shut off the computer by force. Please advise

Try in safemode
Sometimes a problem with Firefox may be a result of malware installed on your computer, that you may not be aware of.
You can try these free programs to scan for malware, which work with your existing antivirus software:
- Microsoft Safety Scanner
- MalwareBytes' Anti-Malware
- TDSSKiller - AntiRootkit Utility
- Hitman Pro
- ESET Online Scanner
Microsoft Security Essentials is a good permanent antivirus for Windows 7/Vista/XP if you don't already have one.
Further information can be found in the Troubleshoot Firefox issues caused by malware article.

You get tabs opening endlessly if you select the Firefox program to handle a file when you get an "Open with" dialog.
You can rename (or delete) the mimeTypes.rdf file in the Firefox profile folder to reset all file actions.
