Why do I get "The POP3 mail server (pop.mail.yahoo.com) does not support UIDL or XTND XLST..." error after sleep/hibernation?

I often (approximately daily) get the error message "The POP3 mail server (pop.mail.yahoo.com) does not support UIDL or XTND XLST, which are required to implement the ``Leave on Server, ``Maximum Message Size or ``Fetch Headers Only options. To download your mail, turn off these options in the Server Settings for your mail server in the Account Settings window."

This happens after I have been able to download mail from Yahoo!, and it seems unlikely that Yahoo! is toggling its support of those functions on and off at whim. ;o} When this happens, the only way I have found to resume getting my mail is to shut Thunderbird down and restart it.

It appears that this usually occurs after the computer has been idle long enough to go into Sleep or Hibernate mode.

TIA, Eric

I have looked on internet for info.

Sometimes this issue seems to get itself sorted, but I have also located others who fixed this, one ran a chkdsk command and found an incorrect attribute, but they failed to say what it was. Another person uninstalled Thunderbird and then installed a fresh version.

So, create a backup using the MozBackup tool as described at this link: http://kb.mozillazine.org/Profile_backup

Then uninstall Thunderbird via Control Panel > Programs and Features. Select Mozilla Thunderbird and click on uninstall. This will uninstall the Program not your Profile.

Then install fresh version from here: http://www.mozilla.org/en-US/thunderbird/all.html

Please report back on whether a fresh install fixed the issue.

The error message info states that this error message is generated when the server is old or badly configured. http://kb.mozillazine.org/Connection_errors_-_POP3
