Go to Help | Check For Updates and then install Firefox version 3.6.16

If you want to update to the latest version which is Firefox 4, then repeat the same steps.

Then click the Windows Start button go to Settings and then Control Panel, find Java in the list and click the Update Now button.

After you update, the problem should be rectified.

Also, I'd recommend you go to the Plugins Check page and update whatever is necessary there too.

I did not have to update to 4 to get this resolved - just updated Java! Someone else had this problem when I posted this the first time 6 days ago - Hope they see this!

You can configure Java to update automatically so that you don't miss out on a future security release. The auto-update utility is contained in the same menu.

But Firefox 4 has additional features to protect your system, so it's worth considering if you have the time. See Firefox 4 Security

I guess I was a bit too optimistic - its still screwed up - I dont have anymore time to waste - back to IE - let me know when you get back to basic good browser.

Start Firefox in Diagnose Firefox issues using Troubleshoot Mode to check if one of the add-ons is causing the problem (switch to the DEFAULT theme: Tools > Add-ons > Appearance/Themes).

  • Don't make any changes on the Safe mode start window.

See:

If it does work in Safe-mode then disable all extensions and then try to find which is causing it by enabling one at a time until the problem reappears.

  • Use "Disable all add-ons" on the Safe mode start window to disable all extensions.
  • Close and restart Firefox after each change via "File > Exit" (Mac: "Firefox > Quit"; Linux: "File > Quit")

You gotta be kidding - You really think I have to do all this cause Firefox made changes - I dont think so.

You can revert to to the version you had before if you want to. Download http://releases.mozilla.org/pub/mozilla.org/firefox/releases/latest-3.5/win32/en-US/

You will need to uninstall the current version first though via Add/Remove Programs, then reboot and delete the Mozilla Firefox folder at this location: C:\Program Files\Mozilla Firefox. Then run the installation file you downloaded.

You really fooled us. Firefox 3.6.xx worked so well, we all blindly downloaded and upgraded to Firefox 4 only to have all havoc break loose. There are lots of problems and I am quite surprised that this release was really "released." I always expected Microsoft to release things before they were ready, but not Firefox. You have disappointed a lot of "followers" with this release. I still can't figure out what is best to do. Very little works right with this new Firefox release, and I hate IE worse, so I am totally perplexed and bummed out on what to do to fix anything. The recommended fixes so far have been sporadic and cumbersome at best and don't really fix anything (if you can even find out what to try, buried in these messages) How about sending us all an apology and a release to go back to that works; and then in the meanwhile you can fix this 4.x for a cleaner release that will not continue to alienate all your prior good customers (who are all going nuts with what doesn't work right)?
