I'm using Thunderbird 78 and while there's much to like I strongly dislike how all the one type of recipients' (To:) email addresses go onto one line. I've mistakenly sent a number of emails to recipients as CC when they should've been BCC.

I thought I'd get used to it in a week or two but I'm still needing to pay more attention to it that I feel I should.

Is there a way to get back the old functionality? That is, a single line per recipient.

Sorry, single line per recipient will not return.

https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/thunderbird-78-faq#w_when-writing-a-new-message-how-can-i-add-edit-or-remove-recipients-in-thunderbird-78 points to a description of the current implementation. But that implementation is likely to be improved in the coming months.

How is it that you accidentally put recipients in Cc?

In the "old" way it displayed the type (To:, CC:, BCC:) next to a single email addresses running vertically down the screen. It's easy to scan them all even though it can take up a lot of real estate.

Today, with one or two emails it's easy enough to confirm the type.

But when you have a number of emails in one field and more in another field then you have to be more attentive to make sure each email is in its correct type. I'm looking at boxes of emails with the type at one end and emails stretching across the window.

I got "slammed" for emailing one person using CC instead of BCC and I didn't believe them till I checked the sent email. This has never happened before.

IMHO the new UI takes up less room (and is somewhat "prettier") but at a cost to usability.

Hmm, I was whining about this to a colleague just now and I was informed that is the way that Outlook does it - so people assume everyone knows how to use Outlook. (I've rarely used it.)
