Sends twice or saves 2 copies to the Sent folder? More than likely the latter. Some providers already save a copy of sent messages so having Thunderbird do it too is redundant. Go to Account Settings-Copies and Folders and tell Thunderbird to stop saving a copy.

How do you know this? Does the recipient get 2 copies? Every recipient you send to gets 2 copies? Who is your email provider? Did you turn off the option to have Thunderbird save a copy of Sent messages?
