I've made it!

It seems like firefox at home was still on version 29 and I've unlinked device there -> made new sync account -> synced everything -> now I'm able to log in from work and every bookmark, etc. is back!

So happy about everything, thanks everyone for the help.

Hello,

The Reset Firefox feature can fix many issues by restoring Firefox to its factory default state while saving your essential information.
Note: This will cause you to lose any Extensions and some Preferences.

  • Open websites will not be saved in Firefox versions lower than 25.

To Reset Firefox do the following:

For Firefox versions previous to 29.0:

  1. Go to Firefox > Help > Troubleshooting Information.
  2. Click the "Reset Firefox"Button reset button.
  3. Firefox will close and reset. After Firefox is done, it will show a window with the information that is imported. Click Finish.
  4. Firefox will open with all factory defaults applied.

For Firefox 29.0 and above:

  1. Click the menu button New Fx Menu, click help Help-29 and select Troubleshooting Information.

Now, a new tab containing your troubleshooting information should open.

  1. At the top right corner of the page, you should see a button that says "Reset Firefox"Button reset. Click on it.
  2. Firefox will close and reset. After Firefox is done, it will show a window with the information that is imported. Click Finish.
  3. Firefox will open with all factory defaults applied.

Further information can be found in the Refresh Firefox - reset add-ons and settings article.

Did this fix your problems? Please report back to us!

Thank you.

Do you have any other devices linked to that Sync Account? If so, see if you can logon to the Sync server with one of those devices. If not, you were using Sync incorrectly. I wasn't intended to be a "data storage Cloud".

"I had to restore my ubuntu ..." Previous to that were you using Firefox 29 or higher? Firefox 29+ has a new version of Sync, which doesn't use the Recovery Key. All you need to connect to Firefox Accounts is your username (email addy) and the account password.

Or were you using Firefox 28 or older? If so, you can re-install Firefox 28 temporarily to try to recover your data from the Sync servers, but with doing that Password Reset you may find that your data is gone.

You may have to wait several hours before you can log in to the Sync account.

Also make sure to allow cookies for the accounts.firefox.com domain.

I was using latest firefox version (30) before restore (recovery key was saved the first time I created sync, before 1-2 years)

I do have other accounts linked, it's under windows - at home (will check it out there).

When posting, I've installed some addon for troubleshooting and submitted with the post itself, however I don't know how/where is that now and if it's visible to you guys, so here is it, as requested:

Already 16h+ passed from my failed login attempts and I still can't login to sync (just to make sure, I've used mozbackup to save everything from home).

If you have a backup from using Mozbackup, use that to restore your data for now, just to play it safe. Another reason to use your Mozbackup backup is that Sync doesn't sync everything; if you have Add-ons set to sync, all your data or prefs for those add-ons may not get synchronized. That is hit or miss, if Sync doesn't expect a file or folder to be in the Profile folder it won't be synced; unless the add-on developer specifically made that add-on's data/prefs to be synced.

Firefox 29+ has a version of Sync where the previously use Recovery Key is no longer used and the "Pairing" feature is gone. Once the Sync Account has been updated to the new Firefox Account, all you need is the Email Address "account username" and the Password; the 3rd authentication factor (the "Key") is now a hidden function, no longer user facing.

All your other Firefox installations need to be 29 or higher versions once your account has been updated. See this KB article - Sync your Firefox bookmarks, history, passwords and more

Hm, I understand your concert here. The problem is I guess that at work I did system restore and I can't login now because my account is not really in the "new" sync and I'm using firefox 30. So I will first have to unlink my home pc from sync which is still using old sync and then sign in to upgrade to the new one - that should solve problems I guess and then I should be able to connect even from work.

I will let you know.
