When using Box for filelink, emails still send attachments normally. Why?

I set up a Box account so I could link large files to emails rather than emailing the large file. But when the file link appears in the body of the email and I click "Send", the email plus attachments is sent normally - i.e. the email takes a long time to go because it is not just sending the link but is sending the large attachments. I tried deleting the attachments from the email once the file link appeared in the body of the email and then sent the email. It went quickly, but when the recipient tried to get onto the link, the message came up that the files had been deleted. What else can I try?

Ok, it took some digging, but I think we are seeing a disconnect between Thunderbird and Box. Box have changed the connection process starting July 1st and Thunderbird have not caught up.

The bug to fix that change in Thunderbird appears to be still in progress see https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=1021684

Get the Shared link and paste it in Thunderbird. If you drag and drop the files. it takes as attachment only.

By the 'Shared Link' do you mean the filelink? That already appears in the Thunderbird email, once I have clicked on "link" and waited a long time while the files are linked. I'm not sure what you mean by 'drag and drop the files'. To attach files, while using Thunderbird to send an email, I just click on "Attach" at the top of the email and my directories come up, from which I select the files I want to attach. When I have selected the files, their names come up in a pane on Thunderbird, and another pane asks if I want the files linked. I have explained what happens when I click on "link".

Not clear enough. See my earlier reply. Problem not solved.

I have changed from Box to Hightail and it works! Thanks Matt!

I noticed that the guys have committed the patch for Thunderbird 31, if you are up for it. You could download the latest and greatest and see if it works for you.

the FTP site is http://ftp.mozilla.org/pub/mozilla.org/thunderbird/nightly/latest-comm-central/ and the file name is Thunderbird-33.0a1.en-US.win32.installer.exe

This is not a replacement for your current version, and many add-ons do not work with daily builds, but it would be doing your bit for the community to install it and try it if your comfortable doing so.

Box is an online support system supported by Mozilla for large email attachments. You just click on " link" at the bottom of the email page and follow directions to join File link's Box account. > Mozilla Support > I signed up for box twice and Thunderbird doesn't recognize me. > Airmail Nov 22, 2014 6:01:47 AM > > I have no idea what box you are talking about. If you want any help please make an effort to provide some details of what you are trying to do and what is keeping you from doing it. > >

That reply was for https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/questions/1032461 but apparently Box.com integration remains broken at least in 31.x.

Initially I was trying to use Box for linking large files, but have been told it is not compatible with Thunderbird. I am now using YouSendIt (now called Hightail I think) for linking large attachments. The attachments link to the email (the link is there in the body of the email), but from the length of time it takes for the email to be finally sent (when I click 'Send'), it is clear that the attachments are being sent normally. More often than not I now use Dropbox.
