I have a multi-disk PC, with data on a separate drive. My Thunderbird profile is held in the data disk and is common to all systems. When I boot in XP and Windows 7, Thunderbird works A OK. XP runs v38.6, W7 runs v38.5.1. When I boot in Windows 10, Thunderbird (v38.6) does start, and displays all the mailboxes, but does not display any emails. The spinning wheel spins indefinitely. It is definitely trying to open the common profile which works with the other systems. I created a new blank profile, and it then works A OK. I closed down my firewall (Comodo). No difference. I tried to create a new profile, pointing it at the common profile on my data disk. No difference. I tried to copy my profile from my backups. No difference.

what do you see in the windows firewall?

Hello. Windows Firewall is off. I use Comodo, and I've tried with Comodo shut down, and the same problem persists. I forgot to say in my original post that I have tried uninstalling Thunderbird and re-installing, the same problem persists. The facts that TB works correctly in W10 when I create a new profile altogether, and that my working profile works correctly with XP and W7 seems to suggest that there's something in my working profile which W10 does not like, but I can't imagine what it could be.

when you try to use old profile : W10 machine now has a new profile. Set comodo to allow Thunderbird.

Do the following with Thunderbird closed.

  • Copy paste the 'Contents' of the old profile name into the new profile name folder (typically called xxxxxxxx.default where x's are letters and numbers) overwriting all folders and files.
  • delete the 'key3.db' file

Restart Thunderbird.
