How do I set Firefox to always go to the website content and not use cached content?

When I visit sites I've visited before, cached content often comes up instead of going to the site for the latest content. Recent examples are checking interest rates at my banking institution, and getting the notification that my local electric utility's website is down for scheduled maintenance. Clearing the cache then allows the browser to get the latest content. (also hitting the refresh button).

I would like to get the latest content from sites that change their content from time to time without having to take the step of clearing the cache (or even hitting the refresh button) every time to be sure.

Hi MLondon, You will need to modify one of Firefox's special settings.

Use about:config

And change the pref browser.cache.check_doc_frequency to have a value of 1 not the default of 3

Key in to the addressbar about:config . Press the Enter key. Accept any warning. Use the search filter so key in say c_fre When the preference searched for is found, right click and use the modify option.

Note that you can reload web page(s) and bypass the cache to refresh possibly outdated or corrupted files.

  • Hold down the Shift key and left-click the Reload button
  • Press "Ctrl + F5" or press "Ctrl + Shift + R" (Windows,Linux)
  • Press "Command + Shift + R" (Mac)
