Hi fatherj, do you mean that downloads are still listed in the Library dialog on the downloads list when you press Ctrl+j ? Usually clearing history also clears the download list but if that didn't work, there's a separate button above that list to "Clear Downloads".

Or do you mean that clearing the lists in Firefox didn't remove the downloads from wherever they were saved? Firefox for Windows might not remove files you downloaded to a specific location when you clear downloads (it may be different on other platforms, or for files downloaded temporarily when you choose to "Open" them instead of "Save" them).

Some basic information about Downloads:

Firefox manages downloads in the Downloads folder in the Library (History > Show All History)

  • Downloads are treated as history items: clearing history removes included download items and vice-versa.
  • The Download button gets a blue highlight once all downloads are finished to make you aware that new downloads are available.
  • Pause and Resume can be found in the right-click context menu of an item.

If you clear the history in Firefox then you should no longer see items listed in the Downloads Manager (Downloads folder in the Library), but you would have to delete the files from the location where you saved the files to have them removed physically from the hard drive.
