After Mozilla updated my old Firefox to this new one, I can no long see my bookmarks from the pull down menu of the new Mozilla. Even after using the tips from Restore bookmarks from backup or move them to another computer (https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/restore-bookmarks-from-backup-or-move-them#w_restoring-from-backups), I cannot open places.sqlite file and the available backed-up bookmarks on the new Firefox does not show my old list of bookmarks.

What can I do ? Over 2 thousands bookmarks I have collected and categorized into about 50 bookmark folders over the years I have been using Firefox. They are meaningful and of sentimental values.

Thanks

Sorry to hear about this problem. Did your Firefox perform a Refresh during the update? If so, you would find a folder on your desktop named Old Firefox Data, and there would be a freshly updated semi-randomly-named folder inside. Do you see anything like that? If so, hang onto it as it might be useful for recovering from this situation.

When you consulted the article about restoring a bookmark backup (Restore bookmarks from backup or move them to another computer), how far did you get? Does your Restore menu list dates of recent automatic backups and if you try to restore one, what happens?

Separate Issue; Your System Details shows;

Installed Plug-ins

Shockwave Flash 18.0 r0 Shockwave Flash 23.0 r0
Having more than one version of a program may cause issues. You must remove the older programs. Then get the current full installer.

Flash: Grab the uninstaller from here: Uninstall Flash Player | Windows Uninstall Flash Player | Mac

Then reinstall the latest version.

Note: Windows users should download the active_x for Internet Explorer. and the plugin for Plugin-based browsers (like Firefox).

Note: Windows 8 and Windows 10 have built-in flash players and Adobe will cause a conflict. Install the plugin only. Not the active_x.

Flash Player Version: 23.0.0.162 Flash Player (Linux) Version 11.2.202.635

https://get.adobe.com/flashplayer/ Direct link scans current system and browser Note: Other software is offered in the download.

https://get.adobe.com/flashplayer/otherversions/ Step 1: Select Operating System Step 2: Select A Version (Firefox, Win IE . . . .) Note: Other software is offered in the download.

I have use the uninstaller you provided to uninstall the latest version on my firefox but the r18 version is still there. What shall I do ? I have yet to reinstall the newest Flash version. Doing so is going to create more than one version of the program that in your opinion is going to cause issues.

Hi ktsquare, presumably Flash 18 is in some strange location and needs to be removed manually.

Can you track down the physical location as follows: type or paste about:plugins in the address bar and press Enter/Return to load it. In the page, you can use Find (Ctrl+f) to search for npswf which is unique to the file name of the Flash plugin.

I had been using the "Restoring from backups" section that taught me to select from a list of backups. They were relatively recent backups and thus none of those contained the one I want.

What If I have not saved my bookmarks when I was using my firefox before the update ?

Regarding the Refresh option during update, my memory could not recall accurately if I was given that option.

Hi   !
As far as   Shockwave Flash   (outdated version)   is concerned:   all you have to do is click on   'Never activate'.

For Flash Player:   If it is installed,   you should find it in your   Control Panel;   click on it and the   Flash Player Settings Manager  will appear.
Click on   'Updates';   does it say:   23.0.0.162   ?
Then it's updated.

I actually see that r18 on the about:plugins page but how can I uninstall it? Both Flash versions have been disabled.

Hi ktsquare, you asked two things:

(1) The about:plugins entry should show the complete path on disk to the .dll file. You can try deleting it from there unless it appears to belong to another program that needs it. Feel free to post the path for comment.

(2) If a Refresh ran, normally you would find an Old Firefox Data folder on your desktop. Do you see anything like that?

The content under the update tab of the Flash Player Settings Manager was greyed out.

It's not activated then.
I'm going to leave you in the capable hands of   jscher2000;   otherwise it'll be way too confusing for you.
Good luck   !

I believe I saw the Old data folder that contain the .sqlite

, according to this information: https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/recovering-important-data-from-an-old-profile

Hi ktsquare, there may be multiple files whose names end with .sqlite including places.sqlite, the file that combines bookmarks and history.

Ignoring that file for a moment, if you double-click into the bookmarkbackups folder, do you see any files there that look promising? As you may have discovered, the file name contains the creation date followed by the number of bookmarks in the backup, so that should help in assessing whether it contains more than you have now.

For the flash issue, I have deleted the .dll files. Shockwave Flash does not appear on about:addons. So I assume both Flash versions are deleted.
