Downloaded Firefox 55.0.3 and now all bookmarks and history have disappeared
This morning, there was a forced FireFox update on my computer to 55.0.3. When I opened the browser, all of my history and bookmarks have disappeared. I have tried looking for old profiles and backups, to no avail. What can I do to retrieve my old bookmarks? Is there a way to reverse this update?

Look on your desktop. Do you see a folder called; Old Firefox?

The initial releases of Firefox 55 had a bug where a special character in your Windows username or elsewhere in the path to your profile folder (where Firefox stores your settings) completely broke everything related to bookmarks (and possibly history). That should have been fixed by the release of Firefox 55.0.3, but there may still be glitches.
Could you check whether you have any non-alphabetic or accented characters in your profile path?
You can view your profile path on the About Profiles page. To open that, type or paste about:profiles in the address bar and press Enter/Return to load it.
Look for the bold heading This is the profile in use and it cannot be deleted. and in the table below that, the "Root Directory."
If the only special character is the apostrophe ('), that problem definitely should be fixed. Some other characters could still be a question mark.
If you have special characters, you may need to reinstall Firefox 54.0.1. There is a link to it in this article: Install an older version of Firefox.
