Since a few weeks Thunderbird has become really slow and unresponsive at times, followed by a crash. It now happens daily. Any help would be appreciated.

Here's one of the recent crash reports: AdapterDeviceID: 0x0152 AdapterDriverVersion: 8.15.10.2639 AdapterSubsysID: 05771028 AdapterVendorID: 0x8086 Add-ons: %7Be2fda1a4-762b-4020-b5ad-a41df1933103%7D:5.4.1.1,lookout%40aron.rubin:1.2.13,%7B972ce4c6-7e08-4474-a285-3208198ce6fd%7D:52.1.1

Penyelesaian terpilih

If this works then something outside of Thunderbird is causing the issue. eg: Make sure all drivers are up to date.

Stop Anti-Virus from scanning any Thunderbird program or profile folders on startup or at any time. Stop Anti-Virus from scanning incoming and outgoing emails.

If it does not work: Start Thunderbird in SAfe Mode.

Report back on results.

Restart the operating system (your computer) in: 'Safe mode with Networking' mode. This loads only the very basics needed to start your computer while enabling an Internet connection.

Start Thunderbird

Test and report back on results.

I can't use Windows safe mode in my work environment but i've now run Thunderbird in safe mode for 2 days straight without any crashes.

But what does that tell me? I had already disabled the addons.

more options

Thunderbird Safe Mode temporarily affects the following:

  • All extensions are disabled.
  • The default theme is used, without a persona.
  • The Just-in-time (JIT) JavaScript compiler is disabled.
  • The userChrome.css and userContent.css files are ignored.
  • The default toolbar layout is used.
  • Hardware acceleration is disabled.

I'm assuming you are using the default theme.

Check to see if you are using 'Hardware Acceleration'.

  • 'Menu icon' > 'Options' > 'Options' > 'Advanced' > 'General ' tab
  • uncheck the checkbox 'Use hardware acceleration when available'
  • click on 'OK'
  • Exit Thunderbird.
  • Allow a bit of time for background processes to complete.
  • Start Thunderbird as normal.

Hardware acceleration was already disabled.

The curious thing is, now after running it some time in safe mode, it runs in normal mode again, too. Maybe it was an update somewhere else, antivirus software most likely.

Anyway, thanks a lot for your help, Toad-Hall. At the least, i have learned some of the basics of Thunderbird troubleshooting from you.

(I've deleted most of the crash details because they are actually useless.)

Instead .... please post the history of your crash IDs from Help > Troubleshooting.
