I have several groups set up in my address book but Thunderbird won't allow me to send to a group with more than about 35 addresses, I have to split large groups into several smaller sub-groups. How can this be overcome?

Possibly your email provider is imposing a limit on the max. no. of recipients allowed in a message. Check with them.
