Hi guys,

This isn't really a question, it's a bug report but I wasn't sure where to post it where someone would see it. The bug keeps getting duplicated and missed in bugzilla for the last few decades.

When you are using an IMAP account, there is no option to set your trash folder to a LOCAL folder instead of a subscribed folder. For other settings such as Drafts or Junk, I can see the list of local folders as well as IMAP folders. But for Trash, the drop-down ONLY contains subscribed folders. There is no means to assign Trash to a local folder.

I desperately want to move my trash to a local folder because my mail server is sloooowww and round-tripping the server to delete e-mails that I'm most likely never going to want back is a waste of bandwidth.

This bug was now been around for 16 years! I know TB is all volunteer and I super-appreciate your work so I'm happy to be patient, but I think this one just keeps getting missed. ;)

Here's a post on SuperUser from 7 years ago talking about how it's been a bug for 10 years: https://superuser.com/questions/561480/thunderbird-imap-delete-a-message-and-move-it-to-local-trash

Here's an equally old post from the Thunderbird Q&A where the answer-er didn't understand the problem being asked: https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/questions/1104935

Here's the bug in bugzilla: https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=277854

Anyway, thank you so much!!!!!!!!

You are aware of the enhancement request in Bugzilla so posting this is just rather pointless as enhancements are managed in Bugzilla not here.

My personal feeling is the request should be closed as wontfix. But it is not my decision.
