Send button greyed out, replies say Write (no subject)
Hi - this has just started, and happens on all email accounts within Thunderbird. Sending an email via Windows Mail works fine.
When I write an email, the send button is greyed out, and the Write: (no subject) message correctly changes as soon as I enter a subject. The Send button stays greyed out even once recipients are entered.
If I reply to an email, the Send button starts & stays greyed out, and the Write: (no subject) message appears at the top as though it was a new message. If I edit the subject line, it then changes to the correct Write: Re: message.
I hope I've checked all the usual things like not working offline, can't be a password problem as it's common to all accounts, email can be sent from the computer. Checked the version - 78.10.0.
I have Cardbook installed; if I disable that, the Send button becomes live once I put in an email address on a new email, but clicking on it has no effect.
I'm running out of ideas . . .
Thanks

Add the accounts to the new profile. IMAP accounts will sync with the server, and for POP and other local mail, copy from the old profile to the new. Copy the mbox files, the large files with no extension, named after folders, from the Mail/<popservername> and Mail/Local Folders locations, to the Mail/Local Folders location in the new profile, with TB closed. Help/Troubleshooting, Profile Folder, Open Folder, to open the current profile.
To transfer complex local mail structures, you may prefer ImportExportTools NG, but the manual method works, too.
Copy the abook.sqlite (Personal Address Book) and history.sqlite (Collected Addresses) files from the old profile to the new. For other address books, export to LDIF format with TB running the old profile, then import to the new profile.

What happens in safe mode (hold Shift when launching TB)? This will disable all add-ons, among other factors.
Sorry, I should have said - that was how I disabled Cardbook & got the symptoms I mentioned at the end; once an email address is entered, the Send button becomes active but doesn't do anything when I click on it.
Thanks, though
Does sending work in the Write window with Ctrl+Enter or File/Send Now?
Nope, sorry - no response to either
Create a new profile from Help/Troubleshooting, about:profiles, add an account (preferably IMAP), and see if you can send a test message.
Ah - now that did work. Thank you!
Now to ask - is there a simple way to transfer all the accounts, local folders etc from my current profile to a new one?

So - not the simple one-step method I might have dreamed of, but a very comprehensive set of instructions anyway.
Thank you very much for the time you've taken to help; I'll mark this solved.
