I have removed Bing from search but Google keeps sliding in a Bing search page when I click to open a new window! How do I stop it? I don't use Google for my browser and I don't use Bing search, period!

Entered safe mode and found my add-ons and plug-ins! I found one questionable plug-in from Google and disabled it! Now I'll have to see if that Bing page shows up again. It has already popped up twice before I did the trouble shoot. I'll get back to you. Thanks

Type about:preferences#search<enter> in the address bar. You can select any search engine to be your default from here.

You can also remove any engine from here.

Did that, Made Yahoo my default and removed Bing from the list. Also removed anything Bing from "This PC" files, but the page continues to show up. I've run virus malware and adware scans and found nothing which could cause it! I'm going to try to get, and post a Screen shot the next time it shows up.

Type about:addons<enter> in the address bar to open your Add-ons Manager. Hot key; (<Control> [Mac=<Command>] <Shift> A)

In the Add-ons Manager, on the left, select Extensions. Remove “ Bing “ Anything.

Also remove SafeSearch, SearchAssist Incognito, FileConverter Addon, SearchLock, DiscreteSearch, WebSearch, Findwide Search Engine, securedsearch

Now do the same in the computer’s Programs Folder.

Windows: Start > Control Panel > Uninstall Programs. Mac: Open the Applications folder. Linux: Check your user manual.

All I get is a blank page for addons. Nothing Google or bing related is in my uninstall programs! I searched my computer files and delete anything I could find labeled Bing and Google - but some of it kept coming back! The Pop-up page won't let me do a screenshot! I have REVO uninstaller on my desktop but nothing to do with Bing or Google is there to remove! Going to try "deny inheritance" in the item's properties <security> and then try to delete it again.

Do you mean you have no add-ons, or what you have is not listed?

If the latter, Diagnose Firefox issues using Troubleshoot(Safe) Mode {web link}

A small dialog should appear. Click Start In Troubleshoot(Safe) Mode (not Refresh). Is the problem still there?

If I have any they aren't listed. Just a blank white page.

I'll try your last suggestion tomorrow. Thanks

Looks like that did it. Haven't seen that pop up page in 2 days! Buy I do get a small banner across the top of pages with videos telling me to "enable DRM" so I'll be able to watch them - a bit annoying, but nowhere near as bad as having an entire page cover what I'm trying to see. But so far I've had no problems watching videos. I sure appreciate your help in solving this issue! If somehow that page appears again I'll be back!

Much thanks,

John

That was very good work. Well Done.

Just out of curiosity, after a couple of days without seeing the Bing search pop-up I re-enabled the plug-in I suspected was the problem and, sure enough, within 10 minutes of re-enabling it I got the pop-up page! I wonder if anyone else is having this issue?

What is the name of that add-on?

Extensions are options you install into Firefox. They can be removed at will. Plugins are from programs that Firefox finds already on your system.

An extension without a Remove button is really a plugin. The only way to remove a plugin is to remove its program from your system. However, you can disable extensions and plugins if you want.

Well, I spoke too soon! I again disabled the plugin I thought was the problem (Widevine content decryption module by Google) and shortly after that the Bing search page showed up again! I clicked on the home page icon on my desktop but when that opened the search page immediately opened over the top of it! I just refreshed FireFox to see if that will eliminate the page! I have a 2nd desktop Computer but the page doesn't show up on it! I'll keep you informed!
