pinned tabs don't survive a restart, certain machines same version

I just installed FF 99.0.1 on a new Windows 10 H1N2 install on my portable. If I have Restore last Session enabled, FF will correctly restore all tabs, except pinned ones. They no longer show up as pinned or regular tabs.

On other machines I have, same windows version, same FF version, pinned tabs survive restart as pinned tabs on the left side of all tabs.

I've looked high and low in options for anything that modifies pinned tabs behavior, and read various help content and such, but no clue. The only thing I think of is that on my portable this is a new system install, and on the other machines there have been many updates of OS and FF over the years.

Does this ring any bell with anyone?

Thanks.

In case you use "Clear history when Firefox closes".

  • do not clear the Browsing History
  • clearing "Site Preferences" clears exceptions for cookies, images, pop-up windows, and software installation and exceptions for passwords and other website specific data
  • clearing "Cookies" will remove all cookies including cookies with an allow exception you may want to keep

Thanks Cor-El,

But since I'm not on a public network I always tell FF to remember everything, as it comes in handy from time to time. As far as I can see, all my FF settings are the same machine to machine, except things like download directory and other minor differences.

Pinned tabs are stored in sessionstore.jsonlz4 when you close Firefox, so it is possible that there is a problem with session restore if you keep the history. you did check the settings for "Clear history when Firefox closes" like I wrote above ?

You can check for problems with the sessionstore.jsonlz4 file in the Firefox profile folder that stores session data.

  • rename/remove sessionstore.jsonlz4 and sessionstore.js

You may also have to rename the sessionstore-backups folder.

When sessionstore.jsonlz4 is deleted you lose pinned-tabs and open tabs and you will have to recreate them, so if necessary make a note or bookmark them. sessionstore.jsonlz4 is only present in the Firefox profile folder when Firefox is closed.

You can use the button on the "Help -> More Troubleshooting Information" (about:support) page to go to the current Firefox profile folder or use the about:profiles page (Root directory).
