Hello,

I've had to delete all of my emails because my "inbox was full" and I wasn't able to receive any more emails. My account is currently completely empty, every single folder is empty, trash is empty, sent mail, inbox, all of it. I've scoured through these online forums to find solutions and I've completed all of the steps to free up storage. My account is now completely bare and is still 96% full in terms of storage. This is frustrating as I've had to delete important emails and this still hasn't fixed the problem.

Can you please clear my cache, my storage, whatever you need to do, I need my email to be completely empty.

Thank you

Do you have a URL to check your mailbox on the web (webmail interface)?

If Thunderbird has a problem storing your mail in local files, that may have a technical solution, but first you should check what is going on with your actual mail account.

(Mozilla doesn't store your email and can't restore it; you need to check your email service provider's website and see where those messages are.)

re : because my "inbox was full" and I wasn't able to receive any more emails.

If you use an Imap account in Thunderbird and you get a message about quota being in high 90% then that is talking about the server.

Imap folders can only display whatever is on the server. If you delete via the webmail account or via Thunderbird imap account then those emails will get moved off the server and thus moved out of imap account. You can consider the folders as if one and the same.

You can always use Thunderbirds 'Local Folders' account to store copies of emails. This is particulary useful if you need to delete emails off the server but want to keep copies of more important emails. However, do make sure you get a fully downloaded copy and not just a header. You should be able to read that email you put into the 'Local Folders' mail account before you delete the copy from the imap folder.

You may need to compact the folder to completely remove all traces of moved or deleted emails so server gets updated properly

  • Right click on folder and select 'compact'.

You can also find quota info in the folder properties:

  • Right click on folder and select 'Properties' - it will offer a 'Quota' tab for imap folders.

Please note if you are using eg: gmail or servers that use a gmail style. All deleted emails would need to be put into the gmail imap Trash folder. Then gmail will auto empty that Trash folder (or you can do it manually) and remove emails from the main storage which is 'All Mail'. If you delete and do not have the deleted email going into the gmail imap Trash folder, then you are only removing a label which stops email appearing in the folder eg: Inbox, but it does not delete the actual email off the server because gmail will continue to store it as an archived email in the 'All Mail' folder. This means you have not reduced your quota on the server.
