Favicon stopped updating
Recently noticed favicons stopped updating. Seems some of my history is working, but any newer favicons are just blank. Looking at page info shows no icon files are downloading. I cannot find any setting that controls/sets this. Anyone having this issue?

Try this: Go to the web page, and click Reload.
Check that you not run Firefox in Private Browsing - Use Firefox without saving history mode. You are in Private Browsing mode if you see "Tools > Stop Private Browsing". --- You can also try "Reset all user preferences to Firefox defaults" on the Safe mode start window - See http://kb.mozillazine.org/Resetting_preferences
Refresh does not help.
Not running in Private Browsing.
I tried the reset and still the icons don't load. Any other suggestions?
The next time you are on that web page, Go to Tools > Page Info. In the Media tab, there should be a link to the favicon. Try visiting the exact URL of the favicon.
Thanks Chris. The problem is on the sites that don't update the favicon, there is no icon listed or link. I'm seeing a mix of some sites that do and some that don't (but I know have icons).
So something is blocking the download of the icon file.
I am editing my website, and placed a new favicon under my www directory. However, firefox still using the old one. It seems that firefox cached the old one and didnt update it when I clicking reload. Clear all the firefox cache can help. However, that is not what I wanted.
Is it a bug? or any way to reload the favicon when reloading pages? or force all the things on current page to be reloaded? Thich would be very usefule when developing a webpage/website
thanks
I was able to resolve my problem by creating a new profile in FF. It appears one of the times FF crashed that the profile became corrupted. Creating a new profile restored complete functionality.
In that case, see Recover important data from an old profile.
RE:FF 3.6.13 on Windows XP. FF is unreliable when it comes to updating favicons. I'm developing a site with several top domains that point to the same place as well as subdomains. FF won't keep track of updates to favicons. In a few cases restarting FF updated them but in other cases I've tried all types of things and can't get FF to let go of it's cached icons and use the correct one. The program really needs a feature, (perhaps it exists and I don't know about it) that resets all icons, or a button on the bookmark properties dialog that says "reload icon", or both. It's really inconsistent as it is.
