Downloading a video, then streaming the .part file while it downloads causes the download to fail when it completes. Any way around this?

I go and download an AVI file from the internet, it downloads slowly but fast enough to stream, so I put the .part file into VLC Player and it streams the data fine :). Problem is that the download fails and im left with an incomplete .part file that doesn't play 100%.

You can't do that. If you open the .part file in VLC then there is a handle open on the file and Firefox can't close and rename the file (remove .part) as long as that handle is still open. You have to wait until the download has finished.
