When I bring up a site from my homepage and try to close it my home page closes too - I want it to stay open.

I just switched from Explorer. I was always able to search and go to sites and just close one window. Firefox closes all including my home page which I would like to keep open instead of clicking on firefox icon every time after I go to a site and close it. How do I keep my home page up?

Sorry if I misunderstood: You're saying you want to close one tab instead of the entire firefox window, right? If that's the case, I think the best option would be to click the X icon on the tab itself.

Thanks - I guess I am just so used to closing from the right and being asked if I want the one item closed. Simple enough.

Are you opening the results in a new tab via a middle click?

Make sure that you use the close X on the tab bar and not the close X on the title bar.
Firefox closes the window automatically if you close the last tab in a window.
You can close a tab via a middle-click on that tab or via Ctrl+W.
