What happend to Private Browsing, all that is available now is Private Window and all it does is create more problems?
I've read some of the comments on another thread about this issue but it does not provide a solution. A private window is NOT the same as a private session. A private session, when terminated, closes all open windows and sessions. A private window only affects itself and potentially leaves dozens of other windows open that must be closed individually.
Sorry folks, changing this feature doesn't cut the cake.

You can switch to permanent Private Browsing mode if you want to have all windows in PB mode.
- Tools > Options > Privacy > Firefox will: "Use custom settings for history"
- Select: [X] "Always use private browsing mode"
This will require a restart.
You can add this switch to the command line of a Firefox desktop shortcut to open a new private mode window: -private-window
Thank you, exactly what I was looking for.
Bummer, I thought that would answer the problem, but it didn't. It opens one Firefox session as regular then another as a Private Window. When I check my Privacy settings again, it's back to default. Still just a window.
I PREFER the PRIVATE WINDOW feature. I often need to switch back and forth between private browsing and regular browsing which is inefficient, time consuming and ANNOYING. Please bring the Private Window back and add more configuration tools so that private browsing can be customized based on preferences.
Future Firefox versions will support Private Browsing per tab, this is already available as an extension.
The Firefox menu button gets purple or you get a purple PB mask on the menu bar or tab bar (Linux) if you are in a PB tab and all Private Browsing mode tabs get a dashed underlining unless you are in permanent PB mode.
