I can't make my Firefox page smaller so I can drag and drop a web site to create a shortcut. I am using windows 7. I have no grippe when i point in the lower right corner. When I use zoom the page itself re sizes but not the window. I just need to see a little of my desktop so I can create a shortcut.

Hi limomitch, Firefox will remember the last "normal" window size by saving it in that file you deleted (which Firefox automatically creates again). To switch between normal and maximized window styles, you usually just need to double-click the title bar of the window, or you can use the middle button (the one between minimize and close) in the upper right corner.

If you find that the "normal" window size has increased too much, and if the lower right corner is not visible, you can try Alt+Spacebar. This is a Windows-wide convention for displaying the window control menu. If Size is not grayed out, press the down arrow key once, then the up arrow key repeatedly until the bottom border of the window comes into view. Repeat with the right and left keys if needed. (If Size is grayed out, choose Restore and that might be all you need.)

Could it be, you are in full-screen mode? Press F11 to check it: if you are indeed in the fulöl-screen mode, the FX window will resize and you should be able to grp the lower right corner for resizing.

Let us know if it helped.

You can check for problems caused by a corrupted localstore.rdf file.

Can you attach a screenshot?

Use a compressed image type like PNG or JPG to save the screenshot.

Thanks but still no joy...Can't create a shortcut because I can't see my desktop and I can't see my desktop because I have no grippe to make the FX page smaller. Where did my grippe go ? I do not have the screen in full mode !

Open the about:newtab page and open the Web Console via Ctrl+Shift+K.
Paste this code in the command line at the bottom of the Web Console pane and press the Enter key to run the code.

newwin=window.open(window.location.href); newwin.moveTo(0,0); newwin.resizeTo(1024,600);

Thank you so much for the fix. It downsized the page perfectly but it didn't stay. Do I have to enter the code each time I want to decrease the screen or can I save that setting somehow ?

Did you try to close Firefox after checking the size?

Did you previously deleted the localstore.rdf file in the Firefox profile folder as this file stores the window dimensions?

I appreciate your patience but we need to dumb it down a little more please. When I entered the code you provided and it re sized the screen I didn't save it and I don't know how to find the localstore.rdf file or the profile folder to see if it exist...Thanks

Did you close Firefox after changing the window size with the code?

If this size didn't keep after a restart then you can open the Troubleshooting Information page and click Show Folder. Help > Troubleshooting Information > Profile Directory: Show Folder

This will bring you to the Firefox profile folder.
Close Firefox.
Locate the localstore.rdf in the profile folder.
Delete the localstore.rdf.

This will reset all toolbar customizations, so you will have to redo those if you made changes to the toolbar layout.

  • Firefox menu button > Options > Toolbar Layout
  • View > Toolbars > Customize

I didn't save anything before closing the page and I didn't restart either, I did find the folder localstore.rdf and deleted it but the screen does not change to the coded size. Do I start over and enter the code again or is it hid somewhere. I want to toggle between each size to create shortcuts quick as possible...Thanks

Well I deleted the localstorerdf file and did a restart and it sized it down to where I want it automatically but how do I swap between regular size and the smaller size I need for creating shortcuts ? I have it on the smaller size but afraid I will lose it again by maximizing the screen. Is it saved anywhere?
