I finally updated firefox. Now, it won't load a bunch of pages without my disabling parts of either Adblock Plus or Ghostery

And sometimes I have to disable one or the other entirely. What is the problem here? Why has Firefox's behavior changed from one version to another? Are you trying to force us to accept ads and tracking? Are you getting paid by creepy companies who want to know where everyone is going and what they are doing online? This seems to be an extension of what you all did with the cookies a few versions back. I tried downgrading to an older version of firefox but while this fixed the behavior I'm reporting here. it caused problems with add-ons. Specifically, the Pocket add-on. Which is very important to me. I'm feeling very misused by Firefox right now. This says I'm in Firevox 46.0 but the problem is with the most current version, whatever that is, for os x 10.8.

Nothing nefarious going on by Mozilla. But you are using an older Operating System that is no longer supported and some extension updates are "going wrong" for users of older versions of Firefox.

Check the User Reviews for Ghostery. https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/ghostery/reviews/ Looks like the new version 7 of Ghostery is causing many user issues and complaints.

AdblockPlus has been causing many user complaints for quite awhile now. I got rid of it in June 2015 and went with uBlock Origin. https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/ublock-origin/

Please see this support article concerning Mac OS X 10.6, 10.7 and 10.8 . https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/firefox-osx

As of Firefox 49 support has ended for Mac OS X 10.6, 10.7 and 10.8. Recommended that the Firefox Extended Support Release (ESR) version 45 be installed as it will continue to receive updates on OS X 10.6, 10.7 and 10.8 until June 12, 2017.

As far as add-on incompatibility, you need to verify that you have versions of extensions that are compatible with the version of Firefox you are using. Over the last month or so we have heard of a few extensions that were updated for Firefox 50 and the new extension version didn't work correctly with an older version of Firefox, and the user had to reinstall the older version of that same extension. And then disable updates for that particular extension.
