i recently installed linux on my aspire 1 laptop. and now my yahoo messenger only comes in beta which doesnt allow me to use my webcam or mic. is there a messenger available that will allow me to use my webcam and mic in linux? ive looked and cant find one that will downoad easily.

Skype works for me quite well for video and text.

Heck I even use a PS3 EYE camera (since I already had it) as it has been supported ever since the 2.6.29 kernal.

If you are only doing text chat then there are plenty like http://www.pidgin.im/

thank you james. ive heard of skype but also heard lots of viruses and i guess if it works , i can try it and see. thank you.

On Windows some users may have encountered it maybe depending on how they have their allowed settings and whether they click on questionable links sent by text chat or not.

I use video Skype (as the next best thing to being in person) to see my sisters family who lives a good ways away.

I use this msn for linux. It worked for me
